What is a Business Phone System?

NewstalkZB's Danny Watson recently caught up with the Orb team to talk about phone systems, and what value they can add to your business.  Phone systems, while not necessarily very exciting, are an important part of any business, and today most small businesses have one.

Most of us have historically been interested in simply making and receiving calls, and what most businesses don't realise is that new generation phone systems technology can help even the smallest companies become more productive, appear more professional and provide better service to customers.

Become more productive
Technologies such as VoIP (Voice-over Internet Protocol) allows you to integrate your phone system with computer systems and therefore combine functions like email, financial systems, and CRM applications - keeping everything at your fingertips.  This lets you get on with work faster and smarter than ever before.

Appear More Professional
Most phone systems have innovative features such as Voicemail, Music on Hold and Auto Attendant - meaning that every customer contact with your business is both a productive and user-friendly experience.

Provide Better Service
Innovative features such as 'Mobile Twinning' (both your landline and your mobile phone ring simultaneously) allows you to become more responsive than ever before - meaning customers can contact you regardless of your location.

Save Money
Phone system technologies allow you to drive efficiencies through your business and this can bring savings on overall headcount.  VoIP technology also means that you can communicate via the internet (voice converted into data) which means you can save a significant amount on traditional toll charges.

The cost will largely depend on your needs and what you want to get out of your phone system, but you can start from as little as $36+GST a week.  You can even add the cost of your phone system to your normal Telecom bill, so you can treat the investment as a typical operational expense vs. a new capital expenditure.

Most phone systems are very user-friendly and also scalable, allowing you to start small and scale things up as your needs change. You certainly don't need to have a propeller on your head and there is a lot of support available to ensure you get the most out of your investment.

This is a bit of a tricky one. It really depends on the system you choose to run with, and also on what existing 'legacy hardware' you currently have in place.

In most cases we find that at very least some of your legacy hardware can be ultilise with a new phone system.
