Work your way with Smart Working Solutions

Innovative telecommunication technologies are allowing businesses of all sizes and industry to re-define the way they go about their normal working day - identifying opportunities to improve responsiveness & customer service, and reduce unnecessary costs from their business.

It all comes down to a simple question:

How connected do you need to be?

  • Keen to take an extra days leave and manage emails from home or the bach?
  • Need to access online resources while on-site with customers using a laptop and data card?
  • Want to check emails in between sales appointments or while waiting for a flight?

Danny Watson of NewsltalkZB spent some time recently, checking out some of the Smart Working Solutions that are available to small businesses, with the Clued Up Orb Team:

Mobile Broadband Data Devices - Email On The Go
Plug a Mobile Broadband Data Card or T-Stick USB device into your laptop and you can create a wireless connection to the Telecom network.  Choose the Data Device and Mobile Broadband Data Plan that best suits your needs and the rest is easy.

  • Stay on top of your Inbox, by checking emails between appointments
  • Check to see if customer orders have been received and need actioning
  • Eliminate the need for service technicians and reps to return to the office just to access web-based business applications.

Smartphone/PDA Devices - Office In your Pocket
Smartphone/PDA devices let you take your work with you and stay on top of emails while on the move.  You get all of your favourite Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) in mobile format, so you can access, view and amend files while away from the office.  There's a wide range of Smartphone Devices to choose from, and for just $49.95+GST a month you can get a 1GB Mobile Broadband Data Plan to keep you connected.

  • Sales staff can utilise downtime between flights or appointments
  • Managers can stay connected and on top of their email inbox while travelling between branches
  • Department heads can update documents between meetings to present accurately.

Business Broadband/Wireless Gateway -
Remote File Access
Telecom's new Business Broadband plans come with a FREE business grade wireless gateway - an ADSL2+ Optimised modem that allows you to wirelessly connect up to four computers to the internet.  The gateway also provides the opportunity to begin working remotely by allowing you to securely access your files when you're out of the office (e.g. at home).  There are 3 Telecom Business Broadband Plans, all of which were recently upgraded to give you significantly more data allowance, and provide the following additional benefits:

  • No Speed Caps - all plans are not throttled for speed
  • Future-Proofed ADSL2+ hardware
  • Priority Business Customer Service line to get you back working faster
  • Professional Grade Security (firewall)
  • Remote Access

I hear mobile data can be really expensive guys.  What is it actaully likely to cost me, and is it going to be cost prohibitive if I'm just a small business e.g. a one man band or owner/operator?

Mobile data is not as expensive as you'd think - and in fact it's pretty cheap in relation to benefits it can deliver to your business.  You can get a Data plan for as little as $50+GST a month, and either a data card for $149+GST or a Smartphone/PDA for around $300+GST.  You can then get Usage Alerts to ensure you don't go over your limit & incur overage costs.

How fast is your mobile broadband connection, and is it reliable?  What is the coverage like? I travel a lot and need to make sure I connect when I am down the line, especially while I am on site with my customers.

Telecom Mobile Broadband is pretty quick and it's getting faster all the time. In most cases it is significantly faster than dial-up, and in many cases it is comparable if not faster than your office connection speed.  In terms of coverage and relaibility - Telecom Mobile Broadband is available in 80% of the places New Zealanders want to work and reliablity is excellent.

I am not a very technical person and was wondering how easy it is to get set up with a Mobile Broadband data device.  Am I going to need to spend even more money to get the right help to get myself set up and going?

The beauty with Telecom Mobile Broadband devices is that they are very easy to set up.

In fact, the T-Stick USB device offers a simple 'Plug & Play' feature where it self installs and you're away laughing.  Easy!
