Q. What brands of mobile phones and smartphones are available on the XT Network?

We have an exciting new line up of devices. We’ve secured a range of devices (handsets, smartphones and data devices) from the world’s leading handset manufacturers, including some exclusive devices:

Q. What will the new XT devices be able to do that I can’t already do today?

Our new handsets along with our new WAP portal (to access the Internet) will enable a far richer experience than ever before. This will bring to life content and applications making them easier and more fun to use.

On our new mobile network you’ll use a SIM to connect to the network. With a SIM, swapping between devices is a breeze. SIM’s can store up to 500 contacts, so when you swap handsets your handsets contacts will go with you.

Q. Will I be able to use my Vodafone device on the new network?

If the device is WCDMA 850MHz compatible and you have a Telecom SIM, it will be capable of working on our new mobile network. However we recommend you purchase a device from us so you can be confident of a good experience and you know we will support it if you have any problems.

With a non Telecom sourced device you will need to go back to the place of purchase as Telecom cannot guarantee the quality of services or repair these devices. Of course the choice is yours.

Q. How do I know if my device is WCDMA 850MHz compatible?

You can look up whether your device is compatible on the manufacturers website, such as www.nokia.com.

Q. Can I keep my current phone on the current network?

Yes we’ll be supporting our current (CDMA) network till at least 2012, so you can choose when is right for you to change.

Q. Can I use my current mobile on the new network?

No, existing Telecom mobiles will not work on the new network.

Q. Will my WorldMode SIM work in a new WCDMA?

No your WorldMode SIM will only work in your WorldMode device. You will need a new SIM to connect to our new mobile network.

COVERAGE

Q. What do you mean by “world class coverage”?

Being a world class mobile operator means having coverage where people are. On our new mobile network coverage will be available in most places New Zealanders live and work – that is world class!

It is about the same as the coverage footprint we provide on our existing (CDMA) network but now all of that footprint will be 3G!

So if you are in coverage today then it is very likely you will be when we launch our new mobile network, and potentially in more places.

3G CONTENT & APPLICATIONS

Q. So what does 3G mean?

It means you have fast Internet access on your mobile, enriching your browsing experience when you access content and applications.

Q. What content and applications are available on XT?

We’re working to bring you the fastest and best Internet experience meaning you can hop online and check out websites straight from your mobile, taking your world with you. Wherever you've got coverage, you're online.

Our customers will also be able to access great services like:

• Mobile Internet, so you can easily access your favourite sites, such as Facebook to upload photos, change your status or post comments on your friends message boards
• Email, get access to your email faster, and download attachments in seconds.
• Video Calling, to any other Telecom customer with a videocapable device on our new mobile network, only within NZ.
• GPS, if your new device supports then you can access maps online and see where you are.
• Music, such as legally downloading a 3 minute (5MB) song from the Internet in less than 15 seconds.
• As well as lots of other great services from our new WAP portal.

ROAMING

Q. What do you mean by “New Zealand’s largest global roaming network?”

On our new mobile network, we will roam to more destinations than Vodafone – that’s what we mean by “largest global roaming network”.

With Telecom you will be able to roam to over 170 destinations for voice and SMS and over 110 destinations for data, compared to Vodafone’s current offering of 140 for voice and SMS and 75 for data*. Plus we also have greater coverage within these destinations with roaming on over 430 networks, compared to Vodafone’s 245 networks*, meaning with Telecom you will have better coverage within the destinations you are visiting. We will also have a prepaid roaming service in a number of destinations.

Q. What about data roaming?

Yes you’ll be able to connect to the Internet on your mobile while roaming overseas. We’ll offer data roaming to over 110 destinations which is more than Vodafone’s current offering of 75 destinations*. This is a huge advantage if you travel a lot for business and want to stay connected.

Q. Most of my roaming is to Australia – what will I experience when I’m there?

Through our relationship with Telstra in Australia, we’ll offer the fastest and most widespread coverage in Australia for voice and data. This is because Telstra’s Next G mobile network is based on the same technology as our new mobile network (WCDMA at 850MHz) – so the service experience will be seamless. Plus Telstra’s network is twice as large as its competitor’s network and covers 99% of Australia’s population.

Q. What plans will be available on the new Xt Mobile Network?

The new Telecom XT mobile call plans are simple and rewarding, and give you loads of flexibility:
